MP's Broncos Update

Former NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle convinced "all the league's owners to adopt revenue sharing, arguably the most successful form of socialism in U.S. history. The reason the NFL is so dominant is because the NFL is basically Marxist. This was Rozelle's greatest coup, and everybody knows it. But you'd never guess that from watching the NFL Network. Marxism is not a talking point." -Chuck Klosterman

Regarding McDaniels/Profanity-gate: I don't think the guy should have apologized for anything. He didn't say anything unreasonable in the circumstances; in fact he didn't say anything that I haven't said at my job (which is moderately comparable). I think he apologized because he is a caring parent, which is a good thing, but I hope he doesn't change his ways. I like his fieriness.

Remember when Bledsoe got hurt in New England...

So, according to various newspapers, some drunk guys at my bar, and my wife who does not like football, Jake Plummer is out and Jay Cutler is in. Barring some sort of Roethlisberger-like miracle, the Broncos will ride out the season with Cutler in learning-mode and just maybe grab the wild-card spot. Or so they say.

I bet that Cutler revitalizes this team. I bet that the cocky young kid has the arm and the smarts to back himself up. I bet he figures out a way to keep the defense off the field and rested and utilize the stagnating talent on the offensive side of the ball. I'm also betting that the Broncos put it together and make a run for the top spot in the AFC West, which includes beating the Chargers in San Diego two Sundays from now. In fact, despite what everyone says about changing QB's and low team morale, I bet the wunderkind puts it all together and goes undefeated the rest of the way.

Cutler has two things that make a QB great - smarts and great passing ability. Plummer, unfortunately, has neither. And it makes all the difference in the world. The great ones had those same qualities, guys like Elway, Marino, Favre, Moon. There are a handful of QB's playing right now with those same qualities - Brees, Brady, McNabb, and Manning. And their respective teams have a shot to win every single game they play.

Jake Plummer never gave the Broncos the ability to win on his talent alone. Other things had to go the right way for the Broncos to win. The running game had to dominate. The team had to play with a lead. The defense needed to make key turnovers. But with Cutler, it's a whole different picture. He has the ability to win games when rushing yards are at a premium. He has the ability to play smart even if the team is down. If Champ can't make a brilliant interception, Cutler has the skills to win the game on his own.

There are a lot of folks down on Plummer right now, and there are a lot of folks excited about Cutler. But they're only excited because he's not Plummer. Fools. I'm excited for Cutler because of who he is and what he can do. Cutler is the man to lead the Broncos on a late-season resurgence. You just watch. The Mile-Hi Messiah is coming!

Sure, everybody is talking about the QB controversy. Plummer is awful, Cutler is a young Elway blah blah blah. What you forgot to mention was your Broncos got beat by a QB just off a concussion and an O-line that is held together by a thread. LJ had a career game and the broncos D got some great looks at the back of Michael Bennett's jersey. KC won playing smash mouth football; these are things that should be included in the blog.

Hey Kooter - I think MP's pt is that Cutler is going to provide the spark that the Broncos need to re-ignite their offense AND defense. KC got that same kind of spark when Green got back on the field. They have that spark whenever they play at home. The Broncos will get it back, too.

MP - you nail it on the head when you say Plummer never had the ability to win on his talent alone. He's been decent, and "thanks for the memories Jake," but I agree with you, MP. Bring on Cutler!
